Saturday 6 March 2010

Can't believe how fast this year is going! Snowdrops, crocuses and soon daffodils rushing up all over the meadows, Princes St Gardens and in wee gardens in Comely Bank Avenue.

Latest lot of MA assignments include essay on theory and how it affects authorial practice, presentation on postcolonial theory, short story, re-writing myth, shakespeare or murder ballad, writing a synopsis and back cover blurb for final project, writing stuff for final project (thriller or bipolar story or Pick's Disease story). Och, it'll happen. It will.

Match.com have gone all fancy and have started bombarding me with emails every time anyone so much as glances at my profile. My spoof profile for Dracula is still up but not getting as much interest as me! Also my facebook alter ego has finally agreed to let me be friends with her.

Off to the Poetry Library on Monday with some students - should be good.

I love Argentine Tango

Oh, yes, I do! However I have no time to tango since I am honing my writing craft at Edinburgh Napier University. I'm in the second term of a Masters Degree in Creative Writing on a unique course which includes options to learn about screen writing, graphic novels, life writing and genre writing. So far we have had visits from authors, agents and publishers. Our left brains are stimulated by lectures on theorists such as Barthes and Derrida while our right brains have free rein in the Writers Room where the velvet sofas nurture our bodies and the Reader in Residence helps us to select books from the dedicated bookshelves.

Last week we abridged a short story, this week we are editing another short story and next week we will be writing an essay on trends in genre fiction. Amongst all this we are working on our own writing projects and reading every book we can lay our hands on. The canteen has the best treacle toffee muffins I have ever tasted.
